The
Northern Highlands & Otavalo Market One
day Tour
An early start, to travel north of Quito
to the province of Imbabura, a magical land
of lakes, just before arriving to the famous
Otavalo market. The Otavalo
Indian market, dates back to the
pre-Inca times and is well known for its textiles
woven on blackstrap and shuttle looms.
The market is piled high with ponchos, hand
made textiles, hats, indian jewellery, and
various handicrafts. You will have time to
wonder around the market.
Lunch will be served at one of the Hosterias
of the area. Afternoon if time permits visit
to Cotacachi an artisans
centre known for its leather woods or San
Antonio de Ibarra where the highlight
are the wood-carvings. |

Otavalo Indian region
Drive North to the Imbabura province, our
drive will take approximately 2 hours to the
Otavalo market (Otavalo is located at 114
Km north of Quito). These two days include
several highlights of the area: The Indian
market where you will have the opportunity
to visit the various Plazas to observe what
is available at the market, fruits, vegetables,
cereals as well as the area where there is
an ample display of tapestries, ponchos, Indian
jewelry, hats among other interesting handicrafts
of the area; the artisans centers of San Antonio
de Ibarra and Cotacachi, as well as the Indian
communities located around the lake San Pablo.
There are ample opportunities also to experience
the rural life of this area of the country
and learn about the industrious ethnic groups
of Otavalo.

There are several options of lodging standards
