An excursion that will take visitors 72 km. (45 miles) from La Paz through the Bolivian highlands to look at the Aymara Indians' way of life. Santa Cruz: The Jesuit Missions (Bol 05)

DAY 1
Leave for San Javier. Lunch and a visit to the first Mission Church. Its imposing temple has been proclaimed Cultural Heritage of Humanity. DAY 2
After breakfast at the hotel, visit the Concepción Church which is a true jewel of the 18th Century and one of the most important Jesuit constructions. Its colonial, baroque-style temple has been proclaimed Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Visit to the museum and artisan workshops, in which you may appreciate the skill with which the artisans work on raw materials. Tour of the surrounding areas and return to Santa Cruz. Early departure from La Paz in bus to Oruro (3 hours), then train to Uyuni (6 hours), crossing a big portion of the Bolivian highlands.

UYUNI SALTFLAT / FISH ISLAND / PALACIO DE SAL HOTEL

Visit the cemetery of old trains and stroll through town, then trip to Colchani, a village on the shores of Uyuni saltflats, where locals produce salt, adding iodine. Entering the saltflats is spectacular, over 10,000 km2 of white salt welcomes you, stay the rest of the morning in Palacio de Sal hotel, the only in the world built of salt bricks. In the afternoon trip to "Isla Pescado" with its impressive gigantic cactus and special flora. Back to spend a the night at the Palacio de Sal hotel. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
