Antartica

At 1,250 km from Punta Arenas, separated by only 990 km from continental Chile, Antarctica is a majestic and dressed in white. The richness that it possesses is protected jealously, as it may be the last source of natural resources in the distant future. In the meantime, a group of Chileans live in Villa Las Estrellas, an incredible housing area, and the only permanent human settlement in the Chilean Antarctic territory, where distance is not synonymous with isolation.

The growing interest to visit this distant land has allowed tourism to begin to develop. Currently excursions to Antarctica are made in luxurious cruise boats that offer travelers the opportunity to visit some of the most unknown landscapes in the world. The population of the Antarctic territory is primarily related to the bases of scientific operations and the number of inhabitants is variable depending on the level of support given to their respective countries.

With an extreme climate and low temperatures, its most noteworthy fauna include the blue whale, sea elephants, the Weddell seal, the Antarctic wolf, different types of penguins such as the Adela, Papua, Antarctic, as well as other birds such as the Petreles Gigantes, cormorants, the Antarctic dove, and the albatross.
