Ica
Peru is considered to be the main wine center
in Peru and principal producer of the original
Peruvian Pisco. The weather is
dry and sunny year round with very little rain.
The Nazca culture, Paracas culture, Wari
culture and the Kingdom of Chincha
developed around this area. In the 15th century,
this land was dominated by the Inca Empire.
Nazca
is located 140 Km South of Ica, in a beautiful
green valley. Sunny days and cool nights, windy
afternoons and very little rain are the main characteristics
of this land. The Nazca culture
flourished here between the second and fifth centuries,
using very advanced irrigation systems (including
canals, aqueducts etc.). The famous Nazca
lines, gigantic geometric figures etched
on the desert sands are admired by amazed visitors
from all over the world.
The
Bay of Paracas is located around 15 Km south of
Pisco. Sunshine most of the year, with mild temperature
during the day but cold nights and frequent sand
storms mainly in the winter characterize the Paracas
Peninsula.
The
Paracas culture inhabited this
area between 1300 BC and 100 AD. They are known
for its fine woven textiles embroidered with geometric
designs.
There
are 47 families and 216 species of birds both
resident and migratory registered in the Paracas
National Reserve, including Humboldt
penguin and the common flamingoes.
