Galapagos
It
Is located 650 miles from the mainland Ecuador
(Pacific Coast). It is a volcanic rock and lava
formation. Galapagos is known
for its unique wildlife, and it is a shelter
for species of flora and fauna, which can not
be found else where in the world.
There
are 14 species of Finches, penguins, albatrosses,
petrels, cormorants, frigate birds, flamingos,
ducks, hawks, osprey, falcons, blue footed,
red footed, masked boobies, and non-flying cormorants
etc. We can also find giant tortoises, sea lions,
yellow and black marine turtles, White tipped
sharks, dolphins, whale sharks and sperm whale.
There are white sanded and red sanded beaches.
Giant mangroves are the most distinctive plants
and dominate the coastlines. A Cruise to Galapagos
is available in yachts, sailboats etc.
In
1936 Galapagos was declared a National Park
to preserve the flora and fauna of the 13 large
islands, 6 minor ones and more than 40 islets.
