Museo Nacional de Antropología,
Arqueología e Historia

Located on Plaza Bolivar, Pueblo Libre. The largest collection of ceramics from Pre-Hispanic cultures in Peru (Chimu, Nazca, Mochica and Pachacamac). Very interesting textiles, the Raimondi Stella and the Tello obelisk are found here. Open Tue-Sat 9:15am - 5pm, Sun and Holidays 10am- 5pm.

Museo de la Nacion
Av Javier Prado Este 2465, San Borja. A select collection of archaeological pieces. Arranged to be able to follow the development of Peruvian Pre-colonial history up to the Inca's time. Displays a good replica of the Lord of Sipan, artifacts from the Sican culture etc. Open Tue-Sun 10am- 5pm.

Museo de Oro del Peru (Gold Museum)
Alonso de Molina 1100, Monterrico. Contains a fantastic sample of Pre Columbian metalwork, gold, silver and bronze; and one of the largest weapon collections and a beautiful collection of Peruvian Textiles. Open daily 11:30 am - 7pm. No pictures allowed.

Museo Arqueologico Rafael Larco Herrera
Av. Bolivar 1515, Pueblo Libre. Houses some 50,000 ceramics from the Mochica culture (AD 400-800), Mochica and Chimu Metal works and textiles and in a separate building an erotica section. Open Mon-Sat 9am-6pm, Sun 9am-1pm.

Museo Arqueologico Amano
Located on Retiro 160, Miraflores. Displays a private collection, from the Chancay, Chimu and Nazca cultures. Contains a beautiful exhibit of the Chancay weaving; pottery and Pre Columbian textiles. Visits by appointment: Mon-Fri,3pm,4pm, 5pm. (Photography prohibited)

Museo Poli
Lord Cocrane 466, San Isidro
Extraordinary private collection of Pre Columbian and Colonial artifacts including material from Sipan. Guided Tours by Mr. Poli himself, by appointment, daily 10am-7pm.

Museo de Arte
Paseo Colon 125, Lima. Built in 1868. more than 7,000 exhibits giving a chronological history from Peruvian cultures and art. Contains Pre-Columbian ceramics and textiles, Colonial silver work, paintings and furniture. Open Tue-Sun 10am-5pm

Museo de Arte Colonial de Osma
Av. Pedro de Osma 421, Barranco. Private collection of colonial art from Cusco, Arequipa and Ayacucho schools. Open Tue-Sun 10am-1pm, 2:30-6pm.. Number of visitors limited to 10 at any time.
