PAPALLACTA - BAEZA
Early transfer from Quito to
Papallacta , a large area with dwarf forest,
subalpines shrubs and alpine meadows. The
altitude goes from 2500 to 4100 meters with
montane cloudforest, polylepis woodland, Elfin
forest and Páramo. Papallacta is a
small rustic village located in the Central
Ecuadorian Andes chain, at only 58 kilometers
east of Quito. In this place there are pools
with thermal waters with temperatures at their
origins fluctuating between 30 to 70ºC
(86 and 157ºF).
After
lunch, departure to Baeza. Papallacta-Baeza
Road (37Km) in the Napo province links Quito
with the northern Oriente. The altitudes goes
from 900 to 4100 meters. Along the road there
are premontane cloudforest, lower montane
cloudforest, montane cloudforest, polylepis
woodland and páramo. Extensive birding
can be done in this area surrounded by beautiful
landscapes. Baeza is a town with patches of
cloudforest, remaining on the steeper slopes,
surrounded by protected areas: Cayambe-Coca
Reserve to the north, Sumaco Napo-Galeras
to the east, and Antisana to the southwest.

DAY 2
SAN ISIDRO ECO LODGE
After
breakfast, departure to San Isidro Eco Lodge,
about 1 hour drive. San Isidro Eco-Lodge is
a private Reserve, located in the eastern
Slope of the Andes, in the Napo province.
There is a primary humid Subtropical forest
in this place, with an altitud of 1700 - 2000
meters. San Isidro has 1200 hectares with
great variety of bird life surrounded by fragments
of Lower montane cloudforest with Chusquea
bamboo, and temperate forest to the west.
Surrounding this Lodge there are forest trails
with undisturbed montane humid forest. Three
hundred species of birds have been recorded
in this area, some of them are rare species.

LORETO ROAD- LAGO AGRIO
Early
departure from San Isidro to Loreto Road, located
in the Napo province, the altitude along this
road goes from 500m to 1300 meters, with access
to premontane forest on the east Andean Slopes.
Around 350 species of birds have been recorded
along this area, with 11 out of 15 Ecuador- Peru
east Andes endemics. Overnight in Lago Agrio.

DAY 5
CUYABENO
Early
departure to Tarapoa Bridge, a 2 hour drive. We
will then take canoes to get to the lodge along
the Rio Aguarico for overnight. Meals included.
Cuyabeno
Wildlife Reserve is a lowland Amazonian Rainforest,
located in the northeastern Ecuador in the Province
of Sucumbios, between Aguarico and San Miguel
Rivers with 655000 hectares. This Reserve was
founded in 1979 due to the high Biodiversity of
the place. It is one of the richest zones of Biodiversity
in the Amazon jungle with a complex system of
alluvial formations, 13 lagoons, rivers and flooded
forest (Igapo). A tropical rainforest an Eco region
located in the upper Amazon-Napo lowlands is an
important endemic bird area of the Reserve. Cuyabeno
has a humidity between 85 to 95 %, and precipitation
of 3000 to 4000 mm3 a year. The Siona community
inhabits the upper part of the Cuyabeno Reserve
at Puerto Bolivar.

your transfer to Lago Agrio. After lunch, transfer
to San Raphael falls. Overnight in San Raphael.

DAY 8
SAN RAPHAEL FALLS
Early
breakfast. Birding in San Raphael Falls.
San Raphael Falls is located on the east
Andean Slope, on the South eastern edge
of the Cayambe-Coca Ecological Reserve (Sucumbios/Napo
Provinces). San Raphael Falls is a subtropical
forest. The Water Falls are the highest
in Ecuador (150 meters) (500 feet). A premontane
cloudforest and secondary growth are surrounding
the San Raphael Falls, and the altitude
of this place is between 1300 to 1400 meters.
The
water falls are a good site to observe Tanagers
flocks and the Andean-Cock- of- the Rock
Lek, approximately halfway along the trail
to the falls.

around San Raphael. Some of them are the
